Multiplex Solius Glider

I spent the last week making this kit and intended to fly it without a motor.
ive used the right servos and extensions and built it light and there is no way that this centre of gravity can be achieved as indicated.
im really disappointed and so much so i smashed it to pieces.

it was expensive for a kit.

you can buy RTF gliders like this for the same price i paid.

Not at all.
The kit has ball bearings included for use in the tail to balance the motor and 3s battery setup.
I have had many gliders before.
I have also had many powered gliders.

The listed weight for glider version is 200g less than one with motor.
It doesnt make any sense at all as the total weight needs the same weight as motor and battery.
Its not a good design.

Its not a good design.

It's designed to be used powered.
As the motor, controller and battery need more room and are lighter than lead, there will be a difference in total weight if used as a plain glider when lead is being put at the very front of the gliders nose. Designed as a plain glider the front part might have been longer, but that's not the case here so you have to live with a compromise.

If I understand you right you are an experienced modeller and you are much more in saoring than in powered modeles. But you can read this on the cover of the manual:

Models like the Solius are designed and optimized for the powered version and any modeler who claims expierence in this field should know that running a kit like this as a pure glider will need some modification as the weight of the missing parts (motor, accu, prop, ESC ...) have to be compensated. You cannot really expect any reduction in weight - eventhough the manual says that 200 g are possible.

By the way - and I am not a very experienced glider pilot - most users put in additional weight for appropriate flighing in wind and at slopes.

P.S. If you are English, British or American you let miss all forms of politeness - and I always thought your are so keen on that. The forum is not MULTIPLEX and we deserve a certain politeness even if you are disappointed with a product. Here you are mainly talking to customers (eventhough mostly infected bay the MULTIPLEX-virus) not exclusively to MULTIPLEX-representatives.

This is pretty unfair, not to say very .... In any case it is all your own fault.

Have you ever tried to turn a biplane into a glider? I guess it is the same problem. You cannot blame the model and its design just because it is not following your personal ideas.
And BTW - I dont know what kind of experience you already made! Obviously the Solius could obviously reach the Centre of Gravity - just not that light as you want to have it.

Hi,
for balancing a model without engine, You need to replace the weight of the engine, the ESC and the battery. A 3S-LiPo is about 200 gr. ESC and engine about 150 - 200 gr. as well. As an experienced modeller You should also know how to balance a model in the correct way. If You did, I do not understand why You tried to fly the model when it is out of balance.
