MPX Co-Pilot Establishing A Link

MPX CO-PILOT
Several of my model club members now have MPX Cockpit Tx fitted with the Co-Pilot teacher / pupil module.
(ALL sets are running on the latest software update).
We follow what we all think is the correct procedure to establish the Pupil / Teacher link but this very often does not work or else takes a very long time before establishing the link.
Once we are successful, all works perfectly.
Are we doing something wrong? How long should it take to link the two Tx together?
What is the correct procedure?.

Simply reduce the distance to a minimum at the binding....

We tried the Tx immediately next to each other, far apart, all distances, it made no difference!

Normally the MULTIPLEX CO-PIOLT sytem works fine. If you have difficulties in linking two TXs you mostly only have to follow the linking procedure more carefully:

Activate the binding-mode of the teacher TX (depends a bit on the system: COCKPIT SX and ProfiTX are to be equiped with an internal CO-PILOT device and so you have to use the setup option - others are to be equiped with with an external stick, you have to push the little botton and switch on the TX). --- Then activate the student TX in binding mode, be sure to keep a rather short distance between the two TXs.

One the workbench at home there are little problems in do it. On the flyingfield things might look different. When other TXs are in operation (any other, so not only MPX-TXs, could be FASST or HOTT or what ever), their 2.4 GHz signal might interfere. Normally placing the two M-LINK-TXs quite close together should solve the problem. The more interfering is possible the long it might take to bind.

So being a bit more patient is the best you can do.

Still having issues binding the 'Co-Pilot' Teacher to Pupil.
This is especially needed now we must observe precautions due the current health situation and Covid-19.

Our situation:
Two(2) MPX 'Cockpit' Tx BOTH equipped with 'Co-Piot' units.
Teacher Tx - Selects active and search for pupil
Pupil Tx - Selects Pupil and says 'binding' and button ring on Tx case flashes 'yellow'
Both Tx are held close to each other.
Very often nothing or Pupil not found appears on Teacher Tx screen.
Eventually after numerous attempts, a successful binding occurs.
All is perfect then and flying training can commence.
So, why is the binding so difficult?
Is it because both Tx have 'Co-Pilot' units?
Should only one Tx have a 'Co-Pilot' unit?
Should just the 'teacher' Tx search for a pupil Tx i.e. don't activate anything on the pupil?
We are puzzled why it works (eventually) but often takes very many attempts to achieve this.

Hi, Captkremen!

Binding of a teacher TX and a student TX is nothing else but binding a TX to an RX! The difference ist to see the teacher TX as the RX and the student TX as the TX.

The Co-Pilot in the student TX is out of work, though it might be installed. The binding itself is independent of the student TX switched to the pupil mode or not! In fact the binding should hold regardless how often you switch off or on the two TXs.

I haven't tested it yet with two COCKPIT SXs (though it works fine with other MPX TXs) but if there are difficulties in holding the pupil mode try the following (second method):

Do not set the student TX to the pupil mode but create a simple model on the student TX using the template "easy" using no mixers, stick or what ever options. Name it "STUtENT" e. g., bind it to the teacher TX. Now the system should work fine whenever you switch on these two TXs. Be careful: the system might also work when any other model ist activated on the student TX.

Further questions if I may.
Servo direction(s) - The 'Teacher' sets up a model with servo direction, rates, trim settings and binds to the Rx in that model.
Are they ALL transferred from the 'Teacher' to the 'Student'?
Is it possible for the 'Student', for example, to add down trim using his Tx or is it only the 'Teacher' who can add trim?

Regarding the 'tick-boxes' on the 'Teacher' screen to enable or disable functions transferred to the 'Student' -
If for example the Teacher retains control of throttle and elevator function, can the teacher use these functions independently without full control being taken back to the 'Teacher' because he, (the Teacher), has touched and moved the control stick?

We have used the 'CoPilot' many times successfully but it still holds many mysteries which MPX instructions do not make very clear!

Hi, CaptKremen!

If you set the pupil TX to pupilmode there is no change of the setting possible. Trimming by the pupil TX is disabled on all functions! If you want a change you have to set that an the teacher TX - possibly with the teacherswitch setting ist on or off. I can't test it at the moment, I am not at home.

If you choose my second suggestion (model STUDENT based on easy template) you can execute trims on the pupil TX! So on the one hand that may solve your problem but on the other you always have to handle the TX-matching wiht great care.
