Yes, and once you've done one flight and switched the Wingstabi on and off you can use heading hold mode as well, as the Wingstabi has accepted those trim positions as the correct control surface positions, so doesn't try and turn the model in the trim direction in that mode.
But if all you want is dampening mode then you just trim and fly it like a model with a regular receiver.
Note you can put the mode on a slider to adjust the gain, but I found this wasn't required the Wingstabi automatically adjusts the gain in flight and so I now just use a 3 position switch to change between modes.
I'm like you when using classic mode and send the trims as separate channels, but for simple models the Easy version is very easy to use.
