It is definitly recommendable zu update any device every now and then. Formaly some systems had difficulties when skipping an update. Nowadays this should be no big problem but may occure.
I always recommend the original USB adapter #85149 - which is the case with you - as "cheap reproductions" have turned out to b less reliable. But even using a #85149 - which I always do - it sometimes suprises me that a certain device (e. g. receiver) can not be identified by the launcher. In most cases I repeated the procedure several time with success in the end. Sumtimes it is (especially my personal) impatience that cause the faiure. But I also had the case that a WINGSTABI 16 M-LINK was not linkable at all. So the service was the only solution.
I don't know what might be the reasons for successless atempts. It might be the battery (low voltage) which I try to avoid by using 5-cell-nimh-batteries, it might be long leads or even other electrical devices (lamps) that have an influence. So try it several times and if successless contact th service.
