RX-6-DR light m-link receiver max amps

Hello,

what is the max current that can go through a RX-6-DR light m-link receiver from the battery to the servos? I mean the total amount at any one time, without causing a brown-out?

This is a function of what the battery can supply. If the battery volts fall under load then the supply volts may drop below what the receiver requires.

A standard servo plug is typically rated for upto 6 amps But many NimH batteries cannot supply this.

What is the idea you are after? Take an RX-pro-receiver (the outlets have fuses of about 5 A) and consider 16 servos in action, that might sum up to about 80 A and the receiver is to stand that - alt least for some seconds.
Broken down to you RX-6-DR you can expect that a total current of 30 A is the extrem. Of course, these calcultations are only true for very short periods. You cannot expect the electronic to stand such a current for a minute or anything like that.

Models equipped with an RX-6-DR are normally expected to be connected with standard-servos or below so 1 A per servos is quite a lot and not all servos will consume such a current at the same time. So what is left for the supply: about 6 A. Standard BECs don't offer that, standard switch-harnesses hardly stand more than 10 A continuously.

@FrankS: thanks, but the question is not really about what the battery can provide (the power source is actually a 5A BEC, and I'm considering a 10A), but about how much current can be drawn by the servos through the receiver without damaging it.

@profimc: thanks, the 30A estimate is more what I was after. So I guess that with a 10A supply and servos that don't all draw at the same time there is little risk of browning-out the receiver.

The broader underlying question was at point do I need to consider a separate power system, like a SmartFly PowerExpander, to isolate the receiver from the servos power supply.

Hi, Guy!

Even if you change to a 10A BEC there is no real need to install a PowerExpander of any kind. The DX-6-DR works even with up to five or even 6 digital servos in an aerobatic model.
