Optical RPM sensor

Hi,
I just broke my optical RPM sensor 85414, the optical LED sensor fell off, probably by vibrations from engine! (it has long component legs)
It would need to be improved by a support around the component legs, to prevent high vibrations load go in to the soldering.

I wonder if you could give me the LED component designation/number, so I can get a replacement part and try to do a repair

For spare parts please try to contact MULTIPLEX directly (contact on MPX-homepage!). The MPX-forum is not the MPX-service and although MPX-staff members may read the one or other thread here it is not a very reliable way to get help in your case.

Your critisim about the LED linkage (only the two tiny legs) is true, especially if applying the gadget on a combustion-engine: I is too weak. I wonder whether it is possible to solder a new LED to some extension cable which would make application more convenient, even installing the main part of the sensor farther away from the engine.

In your case I would try to find a suitable LED at any electronic shop (your local dealer?) and try an extension lead as I suggestet above. I would be interested if you could find a solution!

Danke erst mal für die Ersatzteilangabe. Werde ich mal notieren, man weiß ja nie.

Hast du das mit der Kabelverlängerung mal ausprobiert. Als Flachelektroniker kann ich mir jetzt einen Einfluss der Verlängerung auf die Funktion nicht vorstellen, aber ich denke da ja auch nur ganz flachmännisch.

Hi profimc,

nein verlängert hab ich es nicht. Aber ich hatte den Sensor damals in meinem Verbrenner auch ohne Stabilisierung für die Photodiode eingebaut und mir ist genau das gleiche passiert: Die Diode hat sich einfach "abvibriert". Man sollte sie also lieber zusätzlich befestigen, verkleben oder stützen.

Guten Abend zusammen,
ich habe die Diode mit einer Heißkleberraupe "abgestützt". Wie haltbar diese Verbindung auf Dauer ist, kann ich noch nicht sagen. Aber bisher hat alles funktioniert.

Thanks all, good info, especially the component spec, I will try to se how long I can extend the Photo diod cable in order to place the telemetry Sensor housing as far away as possible from engine and it's ignition system, If you run a Moki 5 cyl which is very "electrical noisy", it would definitely disturb the telemetry and maybe even the receiver.
