Cockpit sx 9 and royal pro 7 Trainer Mode

Hello All,

I have a Cockpit SX 9 and a Royal pro 7 Multiplex transmitters. I really want to be able to set them as trainer and student, I don't mind which way around.

I currently have for the royal pro 7 the training dongle which attaches into the connector on the back of the transmitter. Is this all I should need to connect them, I have tried but with no luck yet, can anyone advise or help. Do I have what I need or do I also need something for the cockpit sx 9 to complete the process??

Hi Crisb,
i would suggest you to buy the Modul Copilot for the SX9 (C3 Model) too. Then the Setup is able to bind both Transmitters SX9 =Trainer and royal pro7 as a Student.

Hi, Chris!

Your setup uses the stick 45183

which only fits in the ROYAL so you can only choose the ROYAL pro 7 as your teacher TX, not the other way round.
If you want the COCKPIT SX as your teacher TX you do need the special teacher modul 45184

for it as Dieter recommends.

For either stick you only need to set your student TX to the student mode - all trims, mixers, D/R or Expo options are switched of on the student TX. Of course, you have to tell the teacher TX which switch you want to use and what channels or functions are given to the student. For this I recommend studying the respetive manual.

Thank you as always for your help and it is good to know that I can connect these two transmitters.

However, sorry to ask for more help I can not work out the process to "blind" them using the Royal as the teacher and the cockpit as the student.

On the cockpit I can go to the menu and select pupil, and this starts the "blinding" process, but it doesn't seem to find the royal. However I'm not sure how to start the process on the Royal.

I have gone to the training menu and selected the mode "teach.m" as shown in the picture

I'm unsure what to do next, the manual talks about a cable not a module. I have the module you showed above, plugged in and it's glowing

Any advise on the blinding process would be great.

Hi, Chris!

I first have to apologize for the little mistake I made in my previous text: it should of course be student TX and teacher TX instead of RX!!! i am correcting this!

The stick 45183 stuck to the ROYAL (teacher TX) works like a little receiver (M-LINK). The student TX (here COCKPIT SX) sends the signal to this little receiver and the teacher TX takes the signals and leads them (somtimes transformed) to the the RX int the model.

So what you have to do is binding the stick to the student TX like you do it with any TX and RX:
1. Royal with stick switched off
2. set the COCKPIT to "binding"
3. take a ballpen and hold the little button on the stick (ROYAL) down
4. switch on the ROYAL TX
5. wait a few sekonds till binding is finished
6. LED on the stick should blink slowly and regularly and the COCKPIT should leave the binding mode

That's it.

But of course, you only see a result when the channels of the student TX are properly assigned on the teacher TX. To enable the ROYAL working as a teacher TX you have to switch it to M-LINK in the teacher menu. Otherwise it does not work with the stick but expects a cable - which is not possible with the COCKPIT.

Hi profimc,

Still no luck with connecting the 2 TX.

I have started the Royal in blinding mode (I do this by holding in the spanner button and switch on the TX) The Royal then says binding. I do this same process when connecting to a RX which works.

I then switch the Cockpit TX to pupil and click start, it says binding in process but the 2 never seem to connect just remain saying binding as in the picture:

I have tried in all combinations (I can think of) but still no luck.

Any other ideas?

The module is definitely in and glowing!

Chris, you should read what profimc has written, the Royal is in this case just a receiver, or to be correct the L/S stick is. So you should bind it as any receiver, switch on the Cockpit in binding mode, hold the button on the stick down and then switch on the Royal to power the stick up.

I now have the two TX connected, now on to assigning the controls and actually connecting to a plane!!

Getting excited, one step closer to getting my son in the air.

Just follow my description. The teacher TX is never switched to "binding" when linking the trainer-stick to a student TX!!! Remember what I have written: the trainer-stick is a kind of receiver that must be bound to the TX (here: the trainer TX - your COCKPIT).

The Royal in the first step is switched off!!! The COCKPIT changed to "binding-mode". Hold down the button on the trainer-stick and now just switch on the ROYAL. That's it.

@profimc thank you so, much I now have it all fully working, switching controls is working.

The only issue I have is when I give control to the cockpit (pupil) the trims seem to "jump" rudder and elevator move slightly to a new position and back again when I gain control back. Any idea why this would be happening, and what I can do to limit this movement when switch control?

Hi, Chris!

I guess your student TX (COCKPIT) is set to the student mode. Activating this mode normally should eliminate all trims and control options as well as mixers on the student TX. So it seems that the neutral position of the one or other control on the student und teacher TX are not at the seem level. This might be caused by aging (here especially on the ROYAL as I take it für granted that it is already in use for a couple of years).

You can try to eliminate or at least minimize that problem by calibrating the controls on the ROYAL and if necessary also on the COCKPIT. But please keep in mind that runnig a calibration on a TX might have an influence on all the models the TX has already memorized. So please check all controls before getting suprised in midair!

Hi Chris,

What profimc says, calibrating the sticks on both Tx's would be the best way. If you don't want to do that, a trick is to use Flightphases on the Royal (i.e. the teacher Tx). When you assign the Teacher/Student switch also to switch between flightphases 1 and 3 (because it is a 2 position switch, you cannot use flightphase 2), you can trim the controls differently for both phases. Then you switch to Student mode, and move the trims on the Royal until you cannot see a difference anymore between Student and Teacher mode.
You will have to be careful though, there are more variables that depend on the flightphase setting. When we are talking about a simple trainer plane it is not likely that anything will be affected.
One more thing, switch assignments are global for all models using the same assignment list, so be careful that there are no conflicts with other models.
