Dear readers from Multiplex Kundendienst,
First of all my German writing is not good enough to express myself in the this way. English is hopefully not a problem for this forum. My apology for that. My reading in German is no problem at all. So you can send me your German comment on my story.
I bought the Multiplex Shark RR from CONRAD in the Netherlands a week ago. Finally a week later I got to the unboxing of the package. I bought this RR package especially without the Multiplex Radio option, because I wanted to use my own well-known Futaba radio equipment. There is ONE IMPORTANT thing that is really missing in the package:
********* THE USER MANUAL OF THE ESC Multicont BL-12 SD ************.
Well due to this lacking of this manual of the ESC it led to an accident. YES, THE SHARK ALMOST BIT MY FINGERS OFF. Yesterday on 24-7-2017 this accident happened to me while checking the ESC Multicont BL-12 SD and motor Permax BL-O 2816-1450. For many years I am an experienced RC modeler and knowing the dangers of motors, but my luck ran out on that particular day. Gladly two fingers have only cuts and they will heal after a while.
Of course I read the [Building Instructions] and read all about holding securely the model while running
the motor. I placed the fuselage freely on a stand. But I could never guessed what the ESC did with my Futaba radio equipment, because the manual is lacking in the package.
There is also another thing: the glued spinner and already mounted propellor. This is also one of the reasons why this accident happened. You can not remove the propellor easily without damaging the
elapor spinner. So I decided to keep the propellor on for testing, keeping in mind that ESCs are relatively safe and not going out of control. THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE OF ME.
I accidently activated the [automatische Motor-/Gaskalibrierung] in the [reversed] gas throttle position of
Futaba radio on channel 3. After a few seconds I moved the throttle stick slightly forwards and that triggered the ESC to confirm its [Steuerbereich speicherung]. Without the ESC manual I didn't know what all the beeps meant. After moving the stick back and forth the ESC gave full throttle on the motor.
I nearly could hold the fuselage in time, but my fingers where already in the propellor. The prop and spinner gladly came off in less than a second. It unscrewed itself from the propadaptor.
Damage report:
1. Almost cut off 2 fingers. (Funny the model is named SHARK. NOW I KNOW WHY!).
2. My chopped off antennas of my Futaba receiver R617FS.
3. Slightly damaged foam stand.
4. The prop didn't break, but is maybe unuseable.
After the accident I went out on the internet for the ESC Multicont BL-12 SD manual. Yes, if I have had
the manual on the package, I had known that chapter 9 is the most important NOTE for adjusting the ESC for other radio equipment. It was also hard to find on the internet.
I send you this message to improve your product on special guide lines for safety.
The RR-package needs certainly :
1. A SPECIFIC WARNING ON ADJUSTING THE ESC ON OTHER RADIO EQUIPMENT.
2. THE MANUAL FOR THE ESC SHOULD BE INCLUDED AND READ FIRST.
3. THE PROP AND SPINNER SHOULD NOT BE PRE-INSTALLED ON THE MODEL AND DELIVERED
SEPERATLY IN A BAG WITH A SPECIFIC WARNING ON FIRST CALIBRATING THE ESC WITH
OTHER RADIO EQUIPMENT WITHOUT THE PROP ON THE MOTOR.
I hope you will take my story seriously and respond positively to my recommendations. It is of interest
of all people who may concern to it.
With kind regards,
J. van der Zande.
